WEC 49 headed to Edmonton, not Calgary on June 20th

World Extreme Cagefighting had discussed a potential event in Calgary, but due to venue availability WEC 49 will take place in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Canadian Press reported on Saturday night that WEC 49 is now official for June 20th in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Eight days after the UFC makes its debut in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

“Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta as a whole is a really good market for us,” Peter Dropick Dropick (WEC VP) said. “And Canada, along with Quebec and Ontario.

“It really came down to availability of dates and venues. They’re [Edmonton] eager for the WEC to get in there. We’ve had good feedback from that market. Good ratings, good TV ratings and good pay-per-view buys from the UFC standpoint. It’s one of the hotter markets… The April show is stacked but we’ve got a deep, deep roster. We’ll put on a strong card.”

Tickets for the event, which takes place at Edmonton’s Rexall Place are scheduled to go on sale Saturday, April 18.

Pre-sale tickets will be available to UFC Fight Club members and WEC Newsletter subscribers on Thursday, April 16.
