UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez undergoes surgery on right shoulder today

UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez went under the knife somewhere in the United States today to repair a partially-torn rotator cuff on his right shoulder, something that will keep him out of action for up to eight months.

The news was first reported by TMZ.com, and Sherdog.com later confirmed the report with sources close to the fighter.

Velasquez has recently stated that the injury was sustained when he won the heavyweight crown back in October, defeating Brock Lesnar for the UFC Heavyweight Championship via TKO in the first round at UFC 121 on October 23rd, 2010. The fight played out in a very one-sided fashion, until referee Herb Dean stopped the bout at 4:12 of the first round, crowning Velasquez the new UFC Heavyweight Champion of the world.
