UFC Cancels February 2015 England Event

Per UFC Chief Global Officer Gary Cook, the UFC’s scheduled return to London, which was originally scheduled for February 2015, has been cancelled.

Cook explained to Ariel Helwani (as transcribed by Irish MMA): “We don’t want to overdo it and we want to make sure we’re focused on the California event.”

The California event which Cook describes is UFC 184, which will feature Chris Weidman’s defense of his UFC Middleweight Championship against former champion (and pound-for-pound entrant) Anderson Silva. Also on the card is Ronda Rousey’s defense of the Women’s Bantamweight Championship against Cat Zingano.

Cook also referred to a large event to be held in Sweden in January which required the promotion’s attention.

Last week, as reported here by Jim Genia, Bloomberg reported that the UFC had suffered losses of revenue between 30-40% in the last year.

The now-cancelled London event was said to be a smaller show to be webcast internationally by the UFC’s online subscription service.

The announcement is only one week after the UFC’s “Time Is Now” media event where the entire 2015 schedule was revealed. Cook says the UFC will return to London later in the year.
