UFC announces return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at the HSBC Arena on Aug 27th

The Ultimate Fighting Championship have announced today thier plans to return to the birth place of Mixed Martial Arts, Brazil, announcing a show at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro on August 27th, 2011.

Dana White, speaking at a press conference in Brazil today, said:

“This isn’t a test. We believe this works everywhere. It definitely works in Brazil. All you have to do is look at the dais here. The guy who started it, the youngest champ, the best pound-for-pound, a top 10 pound-for-pound. This isn’t a test; it’s going to work in Brazil.”

“It goes to show how much talent and quality of talent are in Brazil. I’m sure there are a lot of Brazilians that will want to fight on this card in Rio.”

UFC president Dana White told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday that many of the 36 Brazilian fighters on the company’s roster would compete on the show. Among the Brazilians under contract to the UFC are light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, middleweight champion Anderson Silva, featherweight champion Jose Aldo and middleweight contender Vitor Belfort. White also said there was another major announcement later this year in regards to another location the UFC will soon be visiting for the first time.
