Takanori Gomi vs. Edson Barboza at UFC in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 28th

Former PRIDE lightweight champion, Takanori Gomi will meet Brazilian youngster, Edson Barboza on the UFC in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 28th, 2011.

On Twitter, Shinichi Saitou – editor of Japanese martial arts Kamipro – said that Barboza could be the opponent of Gomi in the “wonderful city”.

Gomi, who had lost only one fight during his time in the PRIDE fighting championships, has had his ups and downs since signing with the Las Vegas based promotion, defeating Tyson Griffin in impressive fashion but losing out to Kenny Florian and Clay Guida as well.

Barboza made an exciting start to his UFC career, defeating Mike Lullo and Anthony Njokuani in impressive fashion. His fight with Njokuani earned him the “Fight of the Night” bonus.
