California based MMA promotion, Strikeforce have decided to part ways with seasoned veterans, Joe Riggs and Joey Villasenor, releasing both fighters from their roster this week, after a mediocre run of results for both.
Riggs has some mystery behind his release after winning six of his last seven professional MMA fights including a first round TKO win over Trent Thorne at King of the Cage 48 just last month. His sole defeat in the past two years came at the hands of Jay Hieron via unanimous decision at Strikeforce: Miami in the beginning of the year.
Villasenor was last seen inside the Strikeforce cage losing a unanimous decision to current middleweight champion, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. He was then “barrowed’ for a Shark Fights 13 bout with Danilo Villefort, a fight he also lost on the judge’s scorecards.
