Stephan Bonnar and Dave Herman Fail UFC 153 Drug Tests, Await Suspensions

UFC light heavyweight veteran, Stephan Bonnar and heavyweight Strikeforce import, Dave Herman have both their UFC 153 post-fight drug tests, with Bonnar testing positive for Drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, abd Herman for marijuana metabolites. All 24 fighters who competed at UFC 153 in Brazil were tested, and Bonnar and Herman were the lone two who failed screen.

UFC issued a statement on the situation, saying:

“Stephan Bonnar and Dave Herman tested positive for a banned substance following their bouts at UFC 153. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents. Both fighters have admitted taking the banned substances and have orally agreed to suspensions. Once the suspensions have been reduced to written agreements, the results of their tests and the agreed upon suspensions will be sent to the Association of Boxing Commissions official record-keeper so other jurisdictions will be on notice.”

This will certainly be a blow to the memory of Bonnar, who recently retired from the sport following his defeat to Anderson Silva. This is not the first time for “The American Psycho” or “Pee-Wee” who both have tested positive in the past for the same drugs respectively.
