Scott Coker Not Satisfied With Only Lesnar, Heading To Japan To Meet With Fedor Emelianenko

Scott Coker made some big changes to Bellator MMA when he replaced former CEO Bjorn Rebney last year. Right off the bat he got rid of Bellator’s long-held tournament format for a more traditional focus, and teased signing former UFC Brock Lesnar, calling him a “needle mover.” But the changes won’t stop there.

In an interview recently Coker followed up on Lesnar, stating that there hasn’t been any formal contract talks yet. However,if Lesnar does choose to return to MMA, Coker said that Bellator can afford him and will be at the beginning of the line for negotiations:

“There hasn’t been any serious dialogue. But when the time comes to have serious dialogue, we’ll be right there. There’s not going to be a fighter on the planet we can’t afford and have access to.”

But it seems Coker isn’t satisfied with just Lesnar as he is headed to Japan this New Year’s Eve for the annual Inoki Boom-Ba-Ye to meet up with retired heavyweight legend Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko, heres what he had to say about potentially convincing Fedor out of retirement:

“I’ve heard mixed signals. The last time I talked to [his people], they were basically saying he’s retired and he’s working for the government supporting MMA, the growth of MMA in Russia. I’m going to the New Year’s Eve show in Japan, so I’ll be over there and I’ll be talking to him and seeing if there’s any interest.”

The best chance Bellator has to compete with the UFC is by signing some big-name stars to create some must-watch events with mainstream attraction, and both Lesnar and Emelianenko obviously qualify.
