Renato “Babalu” Sobral signs with DREAM, enters light heavyweight tourney

Richard Wilner, Babalu Sobral’s attorney and manager, confirmed that the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion has signed a multi-fight contract with DREAM.

For the first time in nearly nine years, Sobral (35-8) will return to Japan where he will participate in the promotion’s upcoming light heavyweight tournament, which is set to begin May 30 at DREAM.15.

“The opportunity presented itself, and we’ve been asking to fight, and it seemed the soonest opportunity to fight is in DREAM,” Wilner said. “The way we see it is we’re representing Strikeforce in Japan.”

No opponent has been determined for Sobral’s first-round tournament debut.
