Rashad Evans confirms fight with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in Newark, New Jersey

UFC light heavyweight number one contender, Rashad Evans has confirmed that he will indeed be facing current UFC 205 pound champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for the title on March 19th at UFC 128 in Newark, New Jersey.

Rashad, speaking via MMAFighting.com, said:

“I’m definitely excited. I’m more excited to hear he’s healthy and in shape and ready to fight in March.”

Rua avenged his controversial unanimous decision loss to Lyoto Machida last October when he knocked out the fellow Brazilian in the very first round of their much anticipated rematch in May. “Shogun” holds very notable wins over the likes of former UFC light heavyweight champ, Chuck Liddell, Strikeforce and K-1 WGP 2010 champ, Alistair Overeem, former PRIDE heavyweight champ, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, former UFC light heavyweight champ, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and PRIDE stand-out Ricardo Arona.

Evans pulled off a unanimous decision win over bitter rival, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 114, also in May. The Greg Jackson trained fighter holds very notable wins over the before mentioned former UFC light heavyweight champ,r Chuck Liddell, as well as defeating UFC light heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin for the title and TUF 3 winner, Michael Bisping.
