Patrick Cote: Anderson Silva crossed the line between cocky and disrespectful

Former number one contender, Patrick Cote believes the line between being cocky and being disrespectful was crossed at UFC 112: Invincible by champion Anderson Silva.

Cote, speaking with MMAWeekly.com, said:

“It’s kind of tricky because he is the world champion. Maybe he’s bored because he don’t have a lot of challenge in this weight class. The thing is, this is mixed martial arts. Okay? In martial arts – the base of martial art is respect. In every martial art: Karate, Judo, Muay Thai, everything, it’s respect.”

“I think there’s a difference between being cocky and disrespectful. And in this fight I think Anderson crossed the line. You can be cocky. I have no problem with that. I think he crossed the line and was very disrespectful toward Demian Maia. I didn’t like his attitude, but the other way is he’s the best in the world. Nobody can beat him, so maybe he can do whatever he wants.”

“My goal is not to beat Anderson Silva. My goal is to be a world champion. If he’s still the champion when I have another title fight, I’ll fight him and I’ll beat him. You can be an underdog on paper by a million, but when the bell rings it’s 50-50.”
