Nick Diaz signs a new multi-year contract extension with Strikeforce; beyond 2011

Just a few weeks shy of his next welterweight title defense Strikeforce welterweight champion and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Nick Diaz has signed a multi-year contract extension that will keep him competing under the Strikeforce banner well into 2011 and beyond regardless of how his upcoming bout with Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos turns out next month.

Diaz told reporters he is looking forward to facing some of the top-tier prospects signed by the promotion in recent months:

“I’m looking forward to continuing my career with Strikeforce. When I first got here, there weren’t a lot of great 170 pound fighters for me to fight, but that’s definitely changed. There’s a lot of really good fighters in the division now and I’m ready to fight anyone who thinks they can beat me.”

Diaz is likely referring to the newly signed Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley whose impressive Strikeforce debut against Scott ‘Hands of Steel’ Smith makes him a worthy opponent down the road and always veteran Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller looms in the background for a potential catchweight bout to settle the long-standing war of words between the two.
