Middleweights, Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold to Square Off This Year

Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Vitor Belfort and Strikeforce champion, Luke Rockhold will face off in coming months, according to UFC President, Dana White, who recently revealed the news at the UFC on FOX 6 press conference.

Belfort defeated Yoshihiro Akiyama and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson before moving up only to be defeated by light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones in September. He was last seen knocking out Michael Bisping in the second round at UFC on FX 7.

Rockhold was set to make his third consecutive title defence in 2012 after already defeating Keith Jardine and Tim Kennedy before he was injured. He won the title with an impressive five-round decision win over Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

White, speaking during the UFC 158 media scrum, said:

“He knocks off a couple more of those guys that are contenders, like, let’s say we did Vitor vs. Hector Lombard or if he knocked off another guy, you know, it gets to the point where you have to give Vitor another shot.”
