MFC stays in THE RING; MFC selects winning entry in cage-naming contest

The ballots have been cast. The votes have been tabulated. And the decision is in. After more than 15,000 entries, a top 10 list, and a final four tournament, the final selection has been made in the Maximum Fighting Championship’s “Name the Cage” contest.

Originally launched on the HDNet broadcast of MFC 28: Supremacy back on February 25, the contest was put in place because the MFC was required to hold its fights for MFC 29: Conquer in a cage as opposed to the usual ring according to the rules established by the Ontario Athletic Commission. The entries poured in from around the world, and on Thursday, March 31, MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich made the announcement on Radio TKO.

“We’re going with ‘The Ring’ ” Pavelich announced. “It’s definitely a little play on words. I firmly believe a ring is the best-suited stage for mixed martial arts, and I will always stand by the decision my organization made on Day 1 to prominently feature the Maximum Fighting Championship in a ring.

“But rules are rules and we are abiding by what was presented to us in Ontario. The thing is our cage – ‘The Ring’ – will be the best-looking, most-stylish fighting apparatus out there. Monster Cages did a fantastic job on the final product and the fights at MFC 29 will look amazing.”

The contributor of the winning entry will be contacted shortly to arrange his trip to MFC 29: Conquer taking place on Friday, April 9 at Caesars Windsor. The winner receives airfare, hotel accommodations, premium tickets, MFC merchandise, party passes, and everything else needed for an unbelievable getaway.

‘The Ring’ will make its debut at MFC 29 featuring two title fights as Douglas “The Phenom” Lima defends his welterweight crown against ”Dangerous” Terry Martin, and Ryan “The Big Deal” Jimmo puts his newly won light-heavyweight belt on the line against Zak Cummings.
