May 30th Shooto: ‘Lion’ Takeshi Inoue vs. Hatsu Hioki for lightweight title

Leading Shooto promoter, Sustain, has been assembling quite a stacked fight card for The third installment of the “Way of Shooto” series, Shooto’s May 30 event at JCB Hall in Tokyo and feature three world title bouts.

143-pound world champion “Lion Takeshi” Takeshi Inoue defends his world title for the second time against Sengoku fighter Hatsu Hioki, while Yasuhiro Urushitani will rematch Ryuichi Miki for a third time for the vacant 123-pound world title, and Willamy “Chiquerim” Freire will rematch Yusuke Endo for the 154-pound strap.

Inoue and Hioki are arguably the two best fighters in Shooto’s lightweight division and among the world top 10 featherweight ranking.

Inoue regained his Shooto title in November 2008 with a victory over Hideki Kadowaki. He successfully defended the title against the Shooto icon, Rumina Sato last May at Shooto’s 20th anniversary event. In January, he won another non-title affair, submitting tune-up opponent Gerald Lovato in the third round.

The 26-year-old Hioki last seen his nine-fight unbeaten streak come to a end last November at Sengoku, losing a split decision to Michihiro Omigawa.

The card will also feature former Shooto world title challenger, Eduardo “Dudu” Dantas vs. former Shooto rookie champion Hiromasa Ogikubo, Shintaro Ishiwatari vs. Wataru Miki, and Rumina Sato against a to-be-determined opponent.
