Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Rashad Evans at UFC 129 in Newark, New Jersey

Current UFC light heavyweight champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and former UFC light heavyweight champion, Rashad Evans are set for a proposed light heavyweight title fight that was originally rumoured to be going down in Abu Dhabi, it now appears to be in line for the main event at UFC 129 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on March 19th, 2011

According to a report by The Fight Network, a source close to the camp of the challenger revealed the news earlier today.

Rua avenged his controversial unanimous decision loss to Lyoto Machida last October when he knocked out the fellow Brazilian in the very first round of their much anticipated rematch in May. “Shogun” holds very notable wins over the likes of former UFC light heavyweight champ, Chuck Liddell, Strikeforce and K-1 WGP 2010 champ, Alistair Overeem, former PRIDE heavyweight champ, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, former UFC light heavyweight champ, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and PRIDE stand-out Ricardo Arona.

Evans pulled off a unanimous decision win over bitter rival, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 114, also in May. The Greg Jackson trained fighter holds very notable wins over the before mentioned former UFC light heavyweight champ,r Chuck Liddell, as well as defeating UFC light heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin for the title and TUF 3 winner, Michael Bisping.
