Rua is coming off a devastating loss to newly crowned champion, Jon Jones just last month, a fight that was one sided without a doubt. Prior to that the Brazilian had defeated Chuck Liddell to become number one contender then went on to lose a conterversial decision to Lyoto Machida, which set up the rematch with “Shogun” knocking out the champ to claim the 205lbs gold.

Griffin has had his share of ups and downs with injury mixed through out over the past couple of years but in his last couple of fights has defeated two former champions in Tito Ortiz and Rich Franklin. At UFC 76, Griffin fought PRIDE’s 2005 Middleweight Grand Prix champion winning the fight by rear naked choke at 4:45 of round three after dominating Shogun for the majority of the fight.
