Matt Hughes: “As long as I still love to compete, I’ll still be here”

Former UFC welterweight champion, Matt Hughes explains he will continue to compete in the Octagon as long as he’s having fun doing it, especially after his win over Renzo Gracie at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi. Dana White also stated Hughes will always have a home in the UFC, fighting or not.

Hughes, speaking via the UFC 112 post-fight press conference, said:

“I have three more fights on my contract. I don’t know how long I’m gonna stay fighting. I’m 36 years old. I’ve had a lot of changes over the last five years, but I still love to compete and I still love going to the gym. As long as I still love to compete in the Octagon and as long as I still enjoy working out, I’ll still be here.”

Dana White also spoke on Matt Hughes at the post-fight conference:

“He’s another one that’s been a good guy. He’s been an incredible fighter, a loyal friend, a great partner, and Matt Hughes will always be with the UFC no matter what, whether he’s fighting or not fighting.”
