Lots of Controversy In The Fight Night Oklahoma Main Event

Last night at UFC Fight Night 112 from Oklahoma, Kevin Lee defeated Michael Chiesa, but that wasn’t the end of it.

Of course Dana White immediately weighed in with a well thought out response:

Mario Mazzagatti does it again!!! This guy is more concerned with doing this dumb ass heart bullshit then Ref’n the fight!!! Steals a great moment from Lee or let Mike fight it or tap. Nobody gives a shit that u can make a heart with ur hands like a 12 year old girl they want u to pay attention to what’s going on in the fight and do ur job.

This bout will unfortunately largely be remembered in the negative because of an early stoppage by referee Mario Yamasaki. But, was it really that egregious?

Coming into the last minute of the round, Lee had Chiesa’s back and locked in a choke. Despite Chiesa attempting to escape, Lee then locked in a gable grip choke. He had him. Chiesa was fading. The ref stepped in a little early, yes, but Chiesa was done. Look at his face. Once Lee let him go, Chiesa jumped up and confronted the ref. But if Yamasaki had waited, would it have ended differently? Probably not. Still, he should have probably waited that little extra time to avoid this mess.
