Gilbert Melendez Fighting May 19th, Hopefully BJ Penn or Anthony Pettis

It was revealed earlier today that Strikeforce lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez will return to action on May 19th, now his manager, Cesar Gracie has let in some light on a potential big name opponent for “El Nino”.

Cesar Gracie, posting via his Twitter account, said:

“Gil is fighting May 19. I hope (B.J.) Penn or (Anthony) Pettis.”

Melendez was last seen taking a unanimous decision victory over Jorge Masvidal. Josh Thomson and Pat Healy are some names that could potentially challenge for the title, but both are coming off not so impressive wins, so Strikeforce could very well go to the UFC’s deep pool of lightweight’s to present a new challenge for the champ.
