Geronimo dos Santos Pulled From UFC 153 After Testing Positive for Hepatitis B

Alex Davis, the manager of Brazilian heavyweight Geronimo dos Santos, has revealed his fighter was pulled from UFC 153 set for tomorrow night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after testing positive for Hepatitis B, something that could bring an end to his entire career.

Davis, speaking via MMAFighting, said:

“The contract is going to have to be voided because he just can’t fight but [UFC matchmaker] Joe [Silva] told me [Thursday] that if he does the chemotherapy and has a negative viral count, then he’ll be back. It was a deep tragedy. This guy came from a very simple [background], a truck tire repair guy. He comes from a very poor background. He started fighting to make his life better.”

According to dos Santos’ manager, the Brazilian tested positive for Hepatitis B last week during a routine pre-fight blood test administered by the UFC, since there is no athletic commission in Brazil, they tested all the UFC 153 fighters.
