Eddie Alvarez Making UFC Debut Against Donald Cerrone At UFC 178

Eddie Alvarez was released by Bellator on Tuesday but he wont be out for long because he now has his first UFC fight against Donald Cerrone as the co-main event of UFC 178 on Sept. 27 in Las Vegas.

The rumour came about for the fight last month, but last week the UFC said Cerrone would be facing Bobby Green on the card. Green was originally supposed to fight Jorge Masvidal, but will now compete at a future event

Alvarez was offered a contract by UFC in December 2012, but Bellator had matching rights. Bellatoir said they matched the UFC’s deal, but didnt think so and took them to court. That ordeal took Alvarez out of action for about a year until he sign a new deal with Bellator. But he was somewhere he didn’t want to be and on Tuesday he was granted his release by Bellator president Scott Coker.

Dana White tweeted a congrats to Eddie after being signed by the UFC, heres what he said:

“Congrats @Ealvarezfight you are finally a UFC fighter!!! Cerrone vs Alvarez #UFC178 #Vegas http://at.ufc.com/B831 http://instagram.com/p/r5U_54vA-l/”
