Demian Maia Out Indefinitely With A Bone Infection

UFC welterweight Demian Maia is forced to sit out for an undetermined amount of time after being diagnosed with a bone infection that was caused by a staph infection, this forced him out of his last fight against Mike Pyle at UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1: Henderson vs. Dos Anjos.

Maia’s manager Eduardo Alonso told confirmed to sources that Maia contracted Osteomyelitis in his right clavicle bone. He was admitted to hospital last Tuesday for treatment and released that Friday after getting a catheter in his right arm.

The treatment for the infection is usually six weeks of IV antibiotics followed by oral medication. He will have a nurse visit him twice a day for about five weeks to administer the medicine. As of now, Maia has to focus on his health and once his bone infection has been cured he anticipates a return to the UFC.
