California State Athletic Commission refuse to re-issue Josh Barnett

Former UFC heavyweight champion, Josh Barnett was today granted a continuance by the California State Athletic Commission, meaning his licence will not be re-issued to him until the next meeting due to a lack of legal representation. Barnett appeared in front to the commission earlier today in order to re-apply for his license after he was banned prior to a proposed bout with Fedor Emelianenko back in 2009 after testing positive for traces of anabolic steroids.

After the hearing Barnett said:

“I feel that in this case, honestly, my counsel should be here. I had no idea that was the case, that I had an opponent that I would have to go up against here. There’s no way I can go forward today.”

“Wow, I show up only to re-apply and get ambushed by an assistant AG who has put together a case against me. As if I would show up without my legal representation if I knew that was going to be the case.”
