Bellator Offers Eddie Alvarez New Contract, Becomes Free Agent If Declined

ellator CEO, Bjorn Rebney has revealed he has offered former lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez a new contract with the promotion, an offer that if declined will lead to the fighters immediate release from Bellator and most likely to the UFC.

In an MMA Fighting interview Friday, Rebney said that Bellator has made Alvarez an offer, and that Alvarez’s response will determine what happens next. If he signs, he will stay in the Bellator and be prominently featured as the promotion moves to its new broadest home on SpikeTV. If not, Rebney will allow him to bypass the remaining 70+ days of the exclusive negotiating period and take his talents to the open market.

Alvarez finished up his latest contract with Bellator with an impressive first round TKO win over Patricky “Pitbull” Freire earlier this month. With UFC President, Dana White already made it quite clear that he is interested in signing the ultra-talented striker.
