Bellator 62: Eric Prindle Awarded Tourney Win, $100,000, and Title Shot

The Bellator heavyweight season five tournament title has been handed to Eric Prindle after Brazilian, Thiago Santos came in over weight, 277.8 lbs. at the official Bellator 62 weigh-in’s. Now, Cole Konrad will finally defend his Bellator heavyweight championship this year even though his challenger wasn’t decided in the cage.

After the first fight was declared a “no contest,” season five heavyweight tournament finalists Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos were slated for a rematch last Friday at Bellator 61, flu-like symptoms kept Prindle from competing, prolonging the fight a week and was suppose to go down tonight at Bellator 62. However, Santos came in at 277.8 lbs. at Thursday’s weigh-ins, and according to multiple published reports the fight has been called off.

Bellator has awarded Prindle the $100,000-winning prize, and the title shot. With the fight not happening on Friday, that will likely move Konrad’s first title defense up, as he won’t have to wait for Prindle to recover before the fight can be booked.
