Vitor Belfort has cemented his position as the top contender for the UFC’s middleweight crown with his jaw-dropping knockout of Dan Henderson today.
Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva gets his chance to re-capture his title against unbeaten prodigy Chris Weidman on December 29 (AEST), and then, Belfort will get a crack at the winner.
UFC President Dana White spoke about the outcome at the press conference following the event, saying:
“Obviously some big fights have to happen, we have the Anderson Silva-Chris Weidman rematch that has to happen but yeah, Vitor Belfort’s next, He (Belfort) did something that nobody has done in 39 fights, stop Dan Henderson. Vitor is a completely different fighter than he was when he was younger, he’s mentally there, he’s physically there, he’s more well-rounded than he’s ever been, and I’m blown away by tonight’s performance,”
Belfort proved to be too much for the 43 year old “Hendo” today when White also confirmed that Henderson was hospitalised post-fight; “Dan Henderson was transported to hospital,” the UFC president revealed.
