Anthony Pettis makes UFC debut in May/June opponent to be determined

WEC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis will make his much anticipated octagon debut either in May or June after being removed from the number one contenders spot when current champion, Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard battled to a draw at UFC 125 according to his manager Mike Roberts.

Roberts, speaking via, said:

“I think if the stars aligned and the world was perfect, [the title shot] would probably be October or November, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. We think there’s a pretty good chance that the winner of that fight is going to take some time off. It just ain’t worth the gamble.

“You can’t take a 23-year-old kid and sit him on the sidelines for 12 or 18 months and have him doing nothing. It’s just not a good idea. We don’t think this is Anthony’s last shot. We think he’s going to be in the mix for a long time.”

“It’s unfortunate he doesn’t get the title shot, but Anthony is confident, and we as a team are confident in his skills. He’s got a golden opportunity even with this situation. We’re very fortunate that he’s been put in the contender position, let alone a shot at the title. He’s going to take advantage of the opportunity and run with it.”
