Tim Sylvia Has “Unfinished Business” with Frank Mir, But Willing to Settle for Pat Barry

Former UFC heavyweight champion, Tim Sylvia is campaigning again for a return to the octagon, saying he has “unfinished business” with Frank Mir but would be willing to settle for Pat Barry.

Sylvia, speaking via MMAWeekly, said:

“Frank Mir, first and foremost. You know, unfinished business man. He broke my arm and I wanted to keep fighting and they wouldn’t let me, so I’m irritated. I’d like to fight a striker so that we could put on a good show. I have a good friend, Pat Barry, who is in the UFC. I think if him and I fought it would be Fight of the Night or Knockout of the Night. Someone would go to sleep and it would be Fight of the Night. We might be able to score both of them. One of us gets Knockout of the Night and Fight of the Night. We’d put on a good show. We’ve had some good sparring sessions so it would be a good fight for the fans. I know he brings it and so do I, so something bad is going to happen to one of us.”

GLORY 9 New York: KO Artist Wayne Barrett To Face Mike Lemaire In Superfight Action June 22nd

Hard-hitting upstart Wayne Barrett (1-0, 1 KO) of Queens, N.Y. will compete on the biggest stage of his young professional fight career when he faces off with fellow undefeated Muay Thai stylist Mike Lemaire (9-0, 3 KOs) of San Diego, Calif. in a middleweight (187 pounds/85 kilograms) Superfight contest at the first-ever GLORY championship series kickboxing event in the U.S. at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, N.Y. on Saturday, June 22.

The 27-year-old Barrett, a former Georgia State Golden Gloves amateur boxing champion and martial artist since the age of 10, has become a dangerous force in the ring with his thorough mix of striking skills and ability to read his opponents while splitting his training camps between Brooklyn, N.Y. where he works under boxing mentor Kelly Richardson, and Atlanta, Ga. where he trains alongside the likes of fellow GLORY competitor Eddie “Showtime” Walker and other world-class fighters.

After amassing a near-perfect amateur kickboxing and Muay Thai record of 19-1, with 15 of his wins coming by way of (T)KO, Barrett made his professional debut in Queens, N.Y. on Feb. 22 against Strahinja Ivanovic, a fighter with 12 professional fights under his belt. Barrett quickly overcame Ivanovic’s experience advantage, landing a right hook to the head that sent Ivanovic to the canvas for the 10-count at the 2:43 mark of the bout’s second round. Josh Barnett Returns Soon, Says He Can Cement His Legacy Inside the Octagon

Former UFC heavyweight champion, Josh Barnett has revealed that he will be back in the ring in coming months, revealing the octagon is the place he can make his legacy, saying he doesn’t feel he can finish on a high point unless that move happens.

Barnett, speaking via MMAFighting, said:

“I would love to fight in the UFC next. I’ve been a top 10 fighter longer than anybody active in mixed martial arts at this time and there’s a real good reason for that. To be in the UFC would mean to go back to where I already won the belt, to go back to where I was a champion at 24 years old, and try to cement my legacy as an MMA fighter. I don’t really feel I can create that legacy and finish on a high point unless I’m there.”

“Well, I think the right deal just hasn’t put itself together. There’s been a lot of good pieces. These promotions have a lot to offer in terms of competition, promotional value, and opportunity to show the fights to a large audience. The fighting part of it, I’m game for all of it.
