Former EliteXC heavyweight champion, Antonio “Big Foot” Silva has been moved up to the co-main event of the evening at UFC 146 and will face former UFC champ, Cain Velasquez in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 26th, 2012. The news was announced by UFC President, Dana White via his Twitter account. He was expected to face Roy Nelson who now will look for a new opponent.
Velasquez hasn’t been seen since he lost a first round knockout to Junior dos Santos. Prior to that he defeated Cheick Kongo, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Brock Lesnar. He was originally set to face Frank Mir in the co-main event of UFC 146.
Silva was last seen also losing via knock out by Daniel Cormier at the semi-finals stage of the Strikeforce heavyweight grand-prix. He had defeated Fedor Emelianenko in their quarter final bout via second round TKO.
