Japanese legend, Takanori Gomi will meet Australian stare, George Sotiropoulos and another Japanese legend, Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto will face British fighter, Vaughan Lee at UFC 144 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan on February 25th, 2012. The Las Vegas based promotion officially announced the fights via UFC.com.
Gomi has only had one win since signing with the UFC, a stunning knockout of Tyson Griffin, other than that he came up short against Kenny Florian, Clay Guida and Nate Diaz. Sotiropoulos was set for a title shot until he lost back-to-back fights to Dennis Siver and Rafael dos Anjos. H does hold notable wins over Joe Lauzon, Kurt Pellegrino, Joe Stevenson.
Yamamoto has only came out on top in one of his last five fights, losing to Masanori Kanehara, Joe Warren, Demetrious Johnson and Darren Uyenoyama and picking up that sole win in five against Federico Lopez. Lee was undefeated in five consecutive bouts tp earn his UFC contract but lost his debut against Chris Cariaso.
