MMAjunkie: UFC officials contend Georges St-Pierre still under contract despite free agency claim

The UFC has denied that Georges St-Pierre is a free agent after the former longtime UFC welterweight champion declared today that he was no longer contractually tied to the organization.

St-Pierre, who hasn’t competed since November 2013, today told The MMA Hour that he was a free agent after several negotiations to make his long-awaited return to the octagon fell through.

The UFC was silent on the issue in the immediate hours following St-Pierre’s declaration, but the organization finally broke its silence tonight in a prepared statement sent to MMAjunkie.

“Georges St-Pierre remains under an existing agreement with Zuffa, LLC as his MMA promoter,” the statement read. “Zuffa intends to honor its agreement with St-Pierre and reserves its rights under the law to have St-Pierre do the same.”
