Stefan Struve Is Okay After UFC 175 Pre-Fight Health Scare

Stefan Struve has spent the last months attempting to get cleared from a heart ailment in order to continue his career with the UFC. He finally got the necessary clearances to compete, and was scheduled to fight at UFC 175 but never made it into the octagon.

While he was warming up backstage, he began hyperventilating and then collapsed. The UFC and Nevada athletic commission doctors immediately examined him, and eventually concluded he would not be able to compete against Matt Mitrione.

After the event was over, UFC president Dana White said Struve was “doing great” following the scary episode. White had this to say regarding the matter:

“I was with him most of the beginning of the [event], He wanted to fight but he was worried, he was concerned, you know. It’s one thing when this happens once. You can’t do it again, but you don’t want to put that pressure on him, because then he can’t pull out if he wants to pull out, It’s a very tricky situation.”
