UFC Cuts 16 Fighters Including Former Welterweight Title Challenger, Jon Fitch

The Ultimate Fighting Championship have released a massive sixteen fighters from their roster including former welterweight title contender, Jon Fitch who had been looking to make a second title run in the 170 pound division.

The following fighters were also cut: Wagner Prado, Mike Russow, Jacob Volkmann, Vladimir Matyushenko, Che Mills, Jay Hieron, Terry Etim, Paul Sass, Jorge Santiago, Mike Stumpf, Simeon Thoresen, C.J. Keith, Motonobu Tezuka, Josh Grispi and Ulysses Gomez.

Fitch is the biggest surprise after amassing a 14-3-1 record inside the octagon, at one point during his run he only lost one fight in 24 outings and that loss came to welterweight kingpin and champion, Georges St-Pierre. Fitch was last seen and dominated by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu artist, Demian Maia, losing the fight via unanimous decision. Even after two losses in three fights, Jon Fitch was ranked No. 9 in the official UFC welterweight rankings as of February 18th.
