UFC 164 – Frank Mir vs. Josh Barnett Announced For August 31st in Milwaukee

A clash of former UFC heavyweight champions was just announced for the UFC 164 event set to be held on August 31st in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as submission artist Frank Mir goes head to head with catch wrestling legend Josh Barnett in a battle of the fittest.

The UFC announced the fight via their Twitter last night. It is thought verbal agreements are in place on both sides at this present time although it has yet to be confirmed.

Mir is coming off a difficult three-round decision loss at the hands of Daniel Cormier on a recent FOX card in San Jose, California. Prior to that he’d competed for the title against then champion, Junior dos Santos, losing via second round TKO.

Barnett has also been defeated by the powerhouse wrestler in the past, dropping a five-round decision and with it the Strikeforce heavyweight grand-prix crown. He has since defeated the relatively unknown Nandor Guelmino in his last Strikeforce card event in January
