Eddie Wineland Out UFC 161, Fight With Renan Barao No Longer A Guarantee

It was revealed today UFC bantamweight number one contender, Eddie Wineland was pulled from the UFC 161 on June 15th in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, after the worlds number one mixed martial arts promotion decided against finding him a new opponent.

UFC officials also confirmed to MMAJunkie.com that at this moment Renan Barao’s recovery timetable is unknown, therefore “Wineland isn’t necessarily guaranteed a rebooking with the interim titleholder.”

Wineland would have been a strange choice to challenge for the title when he migrated over from the WEC ranks where he became the divisions first title holder. He lost his first two bouts inside the octagon before picking up back-to-back wins over Scott Jorgensen and Brad Pickett.
