Chad Mendes Off UFC 157, Set to Face Clay Guida at UFC on FOX 7

The number two ranked featherweight in the world, Chad Mendes was forced off the UFC 157 card after a replacement for the injured Manny Gamburyan failed to arise. Instead Mendes will fight former lightweight, Clay Guida at UFC on FOX 7 in San Jose, California on April 20th, 2013.

Mendes, posting via his Twitter account, said:

“Well guys looks like I’m off the Anaheim card. Sucks pretty bad. I’ll keep everyone updated with what I find out. Sorry. Manny was injured and no one would step up.”

Mendes is coming off back-to-back first round knockout wins over former TUF star, Cody McKenzie and UFC newcomer, Yaotzin Meza. The sole loss of his career comes from featherweight champion, Jose Aldo.

Guida made his successful debut at featherweight last time out against Hatsu Hioki winning a controversial split decision. It was his first win since suffering back-to-back losses in the UFC lightweight division.
