Lil Nog Injured, Chael Sonnen Steps Up vs. “Shogun” at UFC 161

The UFC 161 event has been forced to make some changes after light heavyweight veteran, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was forced to pull out of his co-main event rematch with former champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua due to an injury. Chael Sonnen stepped up to the plate and offered to step in, and just hours later was taken up on it and is now set to face former 205 pound champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 161 on June 15th in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Brazilian website Combate.com reported on Monday that Sonnen has indeed been named Nogueira’s replacement and will face Rua on the June 15 fight card.

“Shogun” hasn’t exactly fared too well inside the octagon of late considering his standing. He hasn’t had a back to back victorie in the octagon since 2009. Sonnen is coming off a couple of title defeats, one at middleweight to Anderson Silva and the other to light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones.
