UFC Returns to Atlanta for the First Time Since September 2008 for UFC 146

The Octagon will return to Atlanta, Georgia for the first time in four years on April 21st for UFC 146. The announcement was made on the UFC Tonight show on FUEL TV on Tuesday. The event is expected to take place at Philips Arena, home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers.

No fights for the card were announced on the show. But former light heavyweight champion, Forrest Griffin, former bantamweight champion, Brian Bowles and Anthony Johnson are all from the state and could very well end up on this card.

The UFC’s last trip to Atlanta seen UFC 88 which featured a main event between Rashad Evans and Chuck Liddell that saw Evans take home the biggest win of his career, knocking out Liddell in the second round and went on to win the title against Griffin. Liddell would not win again, losing by knockout to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Rich Franklin before retiring. UFC 88 also featured Rich Franklin knocking out Matt Hamill via body kick and Dan Henderson’s first UFC win in more than 10 years after returning from PRIDE, where he defeated Rousimar Palhares via unanimous decision.
