UFC on FX and UFC on FUEL Non-Title Main Events Will Be 3 Rounds in 2012

Matt Bishop of the Detroit News reports that unless a title bout, all UFC on FX and UFC on FUEL events will feature a three round main event and not a five round as before. The five round non-title bouts will only be showcased on pay-per-views and UFC on FOX events.

Fuel TV plans on airing six events in 2012, two are already scheduled for FX by March 3rd, which could be planning a similar amount of shows for this yearas well. UFC on FX 1: Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller, UFC on Fuel 1: Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez, UFC on FX 2: Martin Kampmann vs. Thiago Alves, and UFC on Fuel 2: Alexander Gustafsson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will be contested in the normal three round format.

Last year four events featured five round non-title bouts, UFC 138: Leben vs. Munoz, UFC 139: Shogun vs. Henderson, The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale: Bisping vs. Miller and UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem. Only one of the best fights in the history of the sport, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Dan Henderson actually utilized the bonus rounds as the other three fights never needed the fourth or fifth rounds.
