UFC on FOX 5 Main Card Complete With The Lightweight #1 Contenders Bout?

The rumour mill is on fire today after a source confirmed to VigilanteMMA that Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis will compete for a shot at the lightweight title at UFC on FOX 5. Infact they confirm that the contract is now in the hands of Pettis for final approval, although he apparently hasn’t signed it yet. Something UFC President, Dana White said is “So fucking far from being the truth”. I guess fans will have to sit and wait to see in the days to come when the pair will finally go to war.

Cerrone is 6-1 since joining the UFC ranks with 6 fight bonuses to call his own (3 FOTN, 2 KOTN, and 1 SOTN). His latest win was a solid KO of his former teammate and friend, Melvin Guillard at UFC 150. His only octagon loss came to now number one contender, Nate Diaz last December and he has lost twice to the current champ, Ben Henderson for the WEC lightweight strap.

Pettis was originally promised a title shot as WEC champion with his win over Henderson, but Frankie Edgar’s draw with Gray Maynard destroyed those plans. He lost to Clay Guida in his UFC debut but has since rebounded with a win over Jeremy Stephens and a spectacular head kick KO against Joe Lauzon at UFC 144 in Japan.
