UFC 147: Silva vs. Sonnen II Heads to 80,000-Seat Stadium in Rio de Janeiro

Dana White today revealed that the promotion is planning on holding the middleweight title rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen in an 80,000-seat stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil later this summer. “The Spider” defeated his bitter rival via fifth round submission at UFC 117 back in August 2010.

The rematch was initially planned for Sao Paulo; however, logistical issues forced the UFC to go elsewhere, including a yet-to-be-named soccer stadium in Rio de Janeiro that would blow the record for attendance at a UFC event out of the water.

In addition to Silva vs. Sonnen II, Ultimate Fighter Brazil coaches Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva will go to war along with the season’s two finalists. No specific date has been confirmed, but sources say mid-June.
