Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz has officially announced that he will fight another former champ, Forrest Griffin for the third time at UFC 148 in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 7th, 2012, a fight that could very well be his last. The two men squared off on two separate occasions with each picking up a split decision win. This could very well be the last fight for both men, as both fighters have openly talked about retirement over the last couple of months.
Ortiz picked up his first win, since defeating Ken Shamrock on October 10th, 2006, defeating “Ultimate Fighter” season eight winner, Ryan Bader with a first round guillotine submission last summer. He lost a very short notice bout against Rashad Evans and a first round TKO loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira just a month later, putting him right back where he started.
Griffin has won only two of his last five fights, losing his title to Rashad Evans, only to take a fight with the UFC middleweight champ, Anderson Silva, losing that fight via first round knock-out. Griffin then defeated Ortiz and Rich Franklin but those wins were quickly taken away when he lost another first round knock-out to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 134.
