UFC on FOX: Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos Announced as Main Event

The main event of the UFC on FOX event will feature the promotions heavyweight title as current champion, Cain Velasquez takes on number one contender, Junior dos Santos on November 12th in Anaheim, California. UFC President, Dana White made the announcement earlier today via a specially arranged conference call with many of the worlds media listening in. The event has been moved forward one week from the UFC 139 event in San Jose, California.

Velasquez successfully captured the title when he defeated then champion, Brock Lesnar in the first round last October. Prior to that he’d strung together wins dominating, landing 251 strikes and defeating Cheick Kongo via unanimous decision, Ben Rothwell via TKO at 0:58 of round 2, and former Pride Heavyweight Champion and former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, becoming the first man in the sport to finish “Big Nog” via knockout at 2:20 of round one.

Dos Santos successfully negotiated his way past former interim heavyweight champion, Shane Carwin earlier this month to keep and secure his shot at the title. Since entering the UFC he also defeated top contender Fabricio Werdum via knock-out in the first round, Stefan Struve in the first round by TKO, Mirko Filipovic via a knee from the clinch & a right uppercut leaving Cro Cop unable to see causing him to verbally submit from the fight, Gilbert Yvel via TKO also in the first round, and Roy Nelson via unanimous decision.
