Takanori Gomi vs. Nate Diaz at UFC 135 in Denver, Colorado on September 24th

Former PRIDE lightweight champion, Takanori Gomi will get his opportunity to get his revenge on the Diaz brothers, when he faces Nick’s younger brother Nate Diaz at UFC 135 from the Pepsi Centre in Denver, Colorado on September 24th, 2011. Both Diaz and Gomi will head into the September bout looking to prove their relevance within the promotion with four losses in their past six combined fights.

Pride’s second and final US-based event on February 24th, 2007 played host to Nick Diaz vs. Takanori Gomi, the fight was a stand-up war for five minutes, before the Stockton native secured a very qucik Gogo-plata submission early in the second round. Following the fight the win the bout was ruled a no-contest after Diaz tested positive for Marijuana.

Nate Diaz is in desperate need of a win, coming off a two-fight losing streak at welterweight and a 1-3 lightweight record dating back to 2009. He will return to the 155lb division for the first time since his January 2010 loss to Gray Maynard. Gomi is also looking to impress, after dropping four of his last seven bouts, two of those three inside the Octagon. The ‘Fireball Kid’s sole impressive win since the Nick Diaz fight was an August 2010 Knock-Out of former lightweight contender, Tyson Griffin.
