Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker: WGP Winner to face Overeem for title early 2012

California MMA promotion, Strikeforce have decided to make all quarter-final and semi-final fights in their World Grand Prix Heavyweight Tournament three-round bouts, with current Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem facing the eventual winner for his heavyweight title, early 2012.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, speaking at tonight’s press conference call, said:

“To make it simple just like they do in Japan or K-1. The tournament champion will stand on his own and we will have our heavyweight champion and the tournament champion. If Overeem wins, he’s not just the best MMA or K-1 fighter, he can say he’s the greatest martial arts fighter in the world.”
