Strikeforce and DREAM team up for lightweight world grand prix in May

California based MMA promotion, Strikeforce are not content with holding just one grand prix in 2011 after it was revealed they intend on teaming up with Japanese promotion, DREAM for a lightweight world grand prix which is set to take place in Japan. It was revealed today that Strikeforce lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez will compete on April 9th in the United States and would likely be ruled out of competing in the eight-man tournament.

Coker, speaking via ESPN.com, said:

“We’re committed to keeping our fighters active, but if we can help Dream and have our fighters go over there and participate in their tournament, why not? If things go the way they should, I feel confident we’ll send a bunch of guys over.”
