Jon Jones well prepared for the Championship rounds Saturday night

One of the main doubts about UFC light heavyweight number one contender, Jon “Bones” Jones is how he will perform if Shogun Rua brings him into the championship rounds this weekend at UFC 128 in Newark, New Jersey after fading in the third round earlier in his career when he fought Stephan Bonnar. Jones revealed that after four hard rounds of sparring down in Albuquerque, New Mexico against the best that Greg Jackson’s has to offer, the 6’5″, 250lb Tyler “The Beast” East steps into the cage and literally pushes him to his limits.

Jones, speaking via via UFC.com, said:

“This kid swings. And he swings every punch with horrible intentions. He throws hard right kicks to the legs and to the head, and when he punches it’s literally like fighting Goliath. He really makes me feel like I have to survive.”

“This feeling that he (East) gives me, no one has ever given me in an MMA match outside of maybe Stephan Bonnar when I got really tired and I didn’t really know what I was doing. But for me to have a whole playbook of tactics now and the cardio and wrestling to back it up, this kid still puts me in deep water and the coaches unleash this beast on me only when I get tired.”

“This kid comes in and tries to rip my head off. Then I go up against Joey Villasenor, he has that uppercut and that overhand right, and my team is just brutal. They’re truly vicious, so when I go through a practice, it’s a whole different level than anything I’ve ever experienced in a fight.”
