Dominick Cruz to undergo surgery this week, possibly sidelined for six months

UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will be joining fellow UFC champions Jose Aldo and Cain Velasquez on the sidelines as it was revealed that he will undergo surgery on his index finger and could be out for up to six months.

The Alliance MMA fighter has been delaying the operation for some time, apparently first injuring the finger during his title defence against Joseph Benavidez at WEC 50 in August. Cruz then chose to ignore the injury as he defended his title at the last ever WEC event, WEC 53 in December, and after dominating Scott Jorgensen to a unanimous decision the champion revealed he would be taking time off due to a hand injury.

Cruz, speaking to ESPN.com, said::

“It could be six months, but I’m not planning on six months.”
