Ben Rothwell vs. Mark Hunt at UFC 135 in Denver, Colorado on September 24th

Former IFL contender, Ben Rothwell will face former K-1 and PRIDE FC contender, Mark Hunt in a heavyweight war at UFC 135 in Denver, Colorado on September 24th, 2011.

Rothwell made his UFC debut at UFC 104 against undefeated Cain Velasquez losing via TKO a minute into round 2. The fight ended in controversy because Rothwell seemed to be getting to his feet as Steve Mazzagatti stopped the fight. Rothwell was expected to face Mirko Filipovic at UFC 110, however he had to withdraw from the event, just days prior, due to an illness. Rothwell last fought Gilbert Yvel at UFC 115 where he won by unanimous decision. During the first takedown Rothwell attempted he tore his ACL, which has kept him from competing ever since due to surgery, he also suffered a deviated septum from a head kick during the first round.

Hunt made his UFC debut at UFC 119 against fellow UFC newcomer and undefeated prospect Sean McCorkle. He was defeated via Submission at 1:03 of the first round. Hunt’s next fight in the UFC was against Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127 on February 27th in Sydney, Australia. Hunt defeated Tuchscherer in the second round via KO, earning Knockout of the Night. Also snapping his six fight losing streak and giving him his first victory in nearly five years.
